How to Measure Bulk Bin Parts & Accessories

If you’re in the market for feed bin parts like bulk bin boots, feed bin slide valves, or other bin accessories, you’ve come to the right place. We have parts to keep your Schuld/Bushnell and Pax/Valco bulk feed bins operational that you can conveniently order from the comfort of your home and have shipped directly to you. No parts run needed … unless you’re looking for an excuse to stop by and see us in Hills, Iowa.

Before clicking purchase, we recommend you check that you are correctly measuring your bulk bin opening and do not need a reducer to use the parts you’re ordering. We commonly field calls or receive requests for order returns due to confusion about the size of accessories needed, especially for older bins.

Schuld/Bushnell

When ordering Schuld/Bushnell bin parts, the most common mistake we see is not correctly measuring the bottom bin opening.

There are two size options for the bottom opening of Schuld/Bushnell bins, which determines the part size you need when there are multiple options. Schuld/Bushnell bins manufactured over 20 years ago were built with a 14-inch bottom opening, whereas more recently built Schuld/Bushnell bins can have 16-inch openings. While this is a good rule of thumb, it’s still important to measure the bottom opening to double-check.

The correct way to determine the size of your bin’s bottom opening is by measuring the inside diameter at the bottom of the bin rather than the diameter from the outside of the flange.

Pax/Valco

For Pax/Valco bin parts, the primary determination you need to make before purchasing is whether you need a bulk bin reducer to use them. Newer Pax/Valco bins come equipped with a poly boot compatible with all their accessories. Pax/Valco does not make anything that attaches to older bins with an inside bottom opening of 25” anymore. In this case, you would need a Pax/Valco 25″ to 16″ Reducer to use their current parts (including those you can order from us).

One of the easiest ways to know if your Pax/Valco bin needs a reducer is to measure diagonally from bin leg #1 to bin leg #3 (which would be the diameter across the bin). If the distance is 6’ 6”, you have a “Big 66” bin. If the distance is 9’9”, you have a “Big 99” bin. Both need a bulk bin reducer. You can also measure the inside of the bottom opening to see if it is 25”; however, this can be trickier if you already have a bin boot on. If you are purchasing a reducer for a 9’9” diameter bin, extra braces will be needed.
